Political Landscape of Rhode Island

Partisan Composition of Rhode Island

Overall, Rhode Island is considered a blue state, with a Cook PVI of D+8 as of 2022, regularly voting 55-60% Democrat in statewide races. Their governor, both US Senators and both US House representatives are all Democrats. Democrats also have supermajorities in the state house (65-9-1 Independent) and state senate (33-5), giving them a veto-proof supermajority trifecta as of 2/8/24.

Progressive Outlook for Rhode Island

The overall progressive strategy for Rhode Island is optimistic. The focus here should be on growth, primarying out uncooperative Democrats and trying to achieve progressive priorities via petitioning elected officials and organizing.
