Political Landscape of North Dakota
Partisan Composition of North Dakota
Overall, North Dakota is considered a deep red state, with a Cook PVI of R+20 as of 2022, regularly voting 65%-70% Republican in statewide races. North Dakota's entire federal delegation is Republican, as is their governor. Republicans also have supermajorities in the state house (82-12) and state senate (43-4), forming a Republican trifecta (as of 1/28/24).
Progressive Outlook for North Dakota
The overall progressive strategy for North Dakota is bleak. The main focus should be on blunting the Republican trifecta's power via citizen-led ballot initiatives. As North Dakota has open primaries, it is advisable to participate in Republican primaries and vote for the more moderate candidate as well.
