Political Landscape of Indiana

Partisan Composition of Indiana

Overall, Indiana is considered a red state, with a Cook PVI of R+12 as of 2022, regularly voting 55-60% Republican in statewide races. Their governor, both US Senators, and 7 out of 9 of their US House representatives are Republicans. Republicans also have supermajorities in their state house (70-30) and state senate (38-10), giving them a veto-proof majority trifecta.

Progressive Outlook for Indiana

The overall progressive strategy for Indiana is bleak. Democrats haven't won this state in a while, and not on the presidential level since Obama, and progressive candidates rarely do well. Additionally, citizen-led ballot initiatives aren't a thing here. The goal here is harm reduction and ensuring the seats which are deep blue are held by progressives, forming a strong opposition and blunting the legislature by winning swing seats. As Indiana is an open primary red state, it is highly recommended to take a Republican ballot in the primaries and vote for the more moderate Republicans as a means of further harm reduction.
