Welcome to the Oregon state page! Here, Oregon organizers can access and document ongoing projects, current leadership positions, upcoming races, and other important information. This list is non-exhaustive, and state teams are encouraged to expand and adapt these pages to their organizing needs.

Political Landscape of Oregon

Partisan Composition of Oregon

Overall, Oregon is considered a blue state, with a Cook PVI of D+6 as of 2022, regularly voting 52-57% Democrat in statewide races. Their governor, both US Senators, 4 out of 6 of Oregon's US House members are all Democrats. Democrats also have majorities in the state house (35-25) and state senate (17-11-1-1), giving them a trifecta (as of 2/10/24).

Progressive Outlook for Oregon

The overall progressive strategy for Oregon is optimistic. The state allows for citizen-led ballot initiatives and the state legislature is generally receptive to progressive priorities. The goal here should be keeping the state blue and primarying out uncooperative Democrats to achieve progressive legislation. As Oregon is a closed-primary state, registering Democrat is the best way to participate in the primaries.

Progressive Organizations in Oregon

Below is a list of progressive organizations in Oregon. If you see a state organization that isn't on this list, please add it.

  • Oregon Democrats: Oregon is a smaller state so there doesn't seem to be an explicit progressive movement so much as a state Dem party you can move leftward. Worth looking into.

Notable Campaigns in 2024

Below is a list of progressive candidates or ballot measures in the 2024 election cycle for Oregon. Non-progressive candidates may also be placed here if they are substantially to the left of their district's partisan lean and worth campaigning for. If you see a candidate or ballot measure that should be on this list, please add them.

November 5th General Election

  • Val Hoyle for US House OR-4: Val supports universal healthcare and is the incumbent Democrat representative, so she's in a prime position to win this blue district again. She could use your support!
  • Janelle Bynum for US House OR-5: This seat is currently held by Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R) after Bynum was primaried out in 2022. Her win isn't a foregone conclusion, so she could use your support!
  • Andrea Salinas for US House OR-6: Andrea also supports universal healthcare and unions, and she is the incumbent representative as well in another blue district, but she could nonetheless use your support!
