Welcome to the Hawaii state page! Here, Hawaii organizers can access and document ongoing projects, current leadership positions, upcoming races, and other important information. This list is non-exhaustive, and state teams are encouraged to expand and adapt these pages to their organizing needs.

Political Landscape of Hawaii

Partisan Composition of Hawaii

Overall, Hawaii is considered a deep blue state, with a Cook PVI of D+14 as of 2022, regularly voting 60-65% Democrat in statewide races. Both their US Senators, both their US House representatives and their governor are Democrats. Democrats also have comfortable supermajorities in the state house (45-6) and state senate (23-2), giving them a veto-proof trifecta (as of 2/10/24).

Progressive Outlook for Hawaii

The overall progressive strategy for Hawaii is optimistic. Though the state doesn't allow for ballot measures, progressives can petition their state legislators to get progressive goals accomplished. The biggest thing standing in the way of progressives in Hawaii are moderate/centrist Democrats. As such, the Democrat primaries are the most important elections here. As Hawaii is an open primary state, you do not need to register as a Democrat to participate in their primaries and make the state more progressive.
