The Manual of Style referenced here is for all English wiki documents available here. This was inspired from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style.

Headers and Sections

Use headers to divide your document into sections and subsections, with levels denoted by equal signs. The hierarchy of sections is defined by the number of equal signs on either side of the title:

 • == Level 2 ==
 • === Level 3 ===
 • ==== Level 4 ====

The page title is considered a level 1 heading, so you should start with level 2 headings in your text. Do not manually number your headers.

Headers should be clear and accurately represent the content following it.

Paragraph Style

Each paragraph should be concise and focused on a single topic or idea. Begin with a topic sentence that encapsulates the paragraph's main point, followed by supporting sentences that elaborate, explain, or provide evidence.

Separate paragraphs with a blank line, but do not indent the first line of a paragraph.

Use of American English

All pages should be written in American English. This applies to spelling, grammar, punctuation, and terminology. For example, use "color" instead of "colour," "organization" instead of "organisation," and "truck" instead of "lorry."

Capitalization

Use sentence case for section headers and titles, only capitalizing the first letter of the header and any proper nouns. Do not capitalize other words unless they are proper nouns or the first word after a colon.

Capitalization of "the"

In most cases, do not capitalize "the" in the middle of a sentence unless it is part of a proper noun, such as "The New York Times." When "the" begins a sentence, a title, or follows a punctuation mark such as a colon or a dash, capitalize it.

Lists

Use bullet points to create unordered lists and number signs (#) for ordered lists. Begin each list item on a new line, with a space between the bullet or number sign and the text.

 • Unordered list item
 • Another unordered list item
 1. Ordered list item
 2. Another ordered list item

Remember, lists should not substitute paragraphs. They're best for presenting brief, related points in a clear, concise manner.

Quotations

Use "straight" quotation marks and not “curly” ones. The same applies for single-apostrophe quotes.

For quotations within a question, use single-apostrophe quotes.

Links

To link to a page, simply type Main Page - this will end up as Main Page.

If you want to change the text that appears, type Text - this will end up as Text.

To link to a section, like with an anchor, type Main Page#Org Chart - this will end up as Main Page#Org Chart.
